Safety

NOBODY GETS HURT.

At Kiewit, nothing is more important than safety. Our Nobody Gets Hurt mindset means everyone does their part to eliminate every injury or incident, no matter how seemingly minor. On every project, we’re committed to Nobody Gets Hurt and most importantly, zero fatalities. We owe it to ourselves, our Kiewit family, and to every family waiting at home, to always put safety first. No exceptions.

As early as the design phase, we look for ways to make work safer to build. We engage our clients and subcontractors in our safety program, ensuring the tone is set from the beginning. As an organization, we’re pushing ourselves to make not only Kiewit, but our entire industry safer as we work toward our goal: Nobody Gets Hurt.

Craft Voice in Safety

Craft Voice in Safety (CVIS) is Kiewit’s craft-led safety program. Its purpose is to provide a platform to ensure all craft have an equal voice in safety. CVIS creates a culture where everyone has a voice. Craft are taking care of craft, in partnership with management, through ownership, communication and prevention to achieve our goal of NOBODY GETS HURT.

Life-saving actions

Kiewit’s Life-Saving Actions (LSA) program is a data-driven program designed to help project teams proactively eliminate significant injuries and fatalities in our operations. By identifying operation-specific categories, the LSA program provides a framework to ensure the proper safeguards are in place and that best practice tools and trainings are being used for each operation.

Operations Start Card

Kiewit’s Operations Start Card is the standard job hazard analysis tool used across the organization. The Start Card is designed to help supervisors focus on the specific items as they assess their operations for hazards, including an emphasis on safeguards that will prevent life changing events. The company continuously collects feedback from our project teams to make changes and adjustments that continue to improve the effectiveness of the Operations Start Card.

Under the Hat

Our commitment to physical safety runs deep on our jobsites, but Kiewit is also committed to supporting and bringing awareness to mental health. Kiewit’s focus on “Under the Hat: Building Healthy Minds” offers a variety of support services for employees and their families.

We all wear many hats whether in the field or at home — we’re sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, friends, and colleagues. We recognize it can be hard to juggle all these responsibilities and prioritize mental health. We’re committed to supporting and bringing awareness to mental health in the construction industry and beyond.
