Sacramento Regional Primary and Grit Handling Areas Rehabilitation- Sacramento, Calif.
Kiewit Pacific Co., a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation, was awarded an $18 million contract to rehabilitate 12 rectangular primary sedimentation tanks.
The scope of work includes access hatch installation and mechanical equipment replacement. Crews will replace grit slurry piping and grit overflow piping in grit handling areas as well as constructing related structural, mechanical and electrical work.
Major quantities to date include the demolition of 50 tons of steel pipe and angle and 40 tons of concrete over a live flowing wet well without interrupting flow. In addition, the team will construct 8,000 linear feet of welded stainless steel angle and flat bar, 4,000 linear feet of 4-inch polyvinyl chloride pipe with zero leaks, 3,000 linear feet of sludge chain and flight system with zero testing delays and 2,000 linear feet of scum chain and flight system with zero testing delays. In addition, eight 14,000-pound precast concrete sections will be set over a live flowing wet well without interrupting flow.The project is expected to be complete December, 2010.
