Kiewit was awarded two contracts to build the new 463,000 SF, nine gate commercial aircraft terminal (Concourse C) and Arrivals Hall at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.
Under the Phase I contract, crews completed construction of a structural steel frame and foundation for the terminal. For its work on Phase I, Kiewit received the 2002 Associated General Contractors of Alaska “Excellence in Partnering” award.
Phase II work involved limited demolition, concrete slab-on-grade, metal decks, structural and miscellaneous steel, masonry, 292,000 SF of exterior metal wall panels, and fireproofing of 5,800 tons of structural steel framework. The contract also included new mechanical systems, electrical equipment and systems, and a state-of-the-art baggage handling system.
