SR 101 (San Mateo) Managed Lanes CMGC North Segment

San Mateo, California

Kiewit constructed approximately 22 miles of managed lanes in each direction on SR 101 between the San Francisco Airport and Palo Alto in San Mateo, California.

The major scope of the North segment included widening 32 lane-miles (16 miles in each direction) with space for the new HOV lane, two miles of city frontage road reconstruction, installation of static and dynamic overhead signs, electronic tolling system equipment and closed-circuit television cameras. Kiewit was also tasked with deep utilities relocation, replacing sound walls, reconstructing median shoulders with full structural sections, and demolishing and replacing median barriers.

The project spanned two counties and six cities and highly phased construction sequencing that led to completion on budget and ahead of schedule.
