Scott Technology & Innovation Center Projects (I, II, III, IV)

The Scott Technology & Innovation Center is an IT-centric campus for the development and growth of technology driven businesses. The project was designed and built in several phases to meet capacity requirements for new tenants. Kiewit was the Design-Build Contractor for each phase of the project, and self-performed all civil, sanitary, concrete foundations, cast-in-place concrete walls, rough carpentry, finish carpentry, and fire protection.

Phase I of the center was a three-story, 60,000 SF information technology research facility with a steel framed structure and a precast concrete exterior skin. Phase II encompassed an 81,000 SF shell and core addition to Phase I, and included the tenant finish for a portion of the facility. Other elements of work included a chiller (with electrical utility switch in the enclosure), underground mechanical piping, installation of the building transformer, communications pull boxes for the campus, and a building control system. All systems between the first portion and the second portion had to be tied together.

Phase III involved the construction of an addition to the Phase II facility, with a 55,000 SF secure data center for the United States Air Force Strategic Command’s Global Innovation and Strategy Center. Constructed as a premier hosting facility, the building boasts high-end redundant infrastructure coupled with a weather-hardened exterior. For Phase IV, Kiewit added a 28,000 SF central utility plant that serves three existing data center buildings and increases the data center’s redundancy rating to the Uptime Institute’s Tier IV Certification for Concurrent Maintainability.

Additionally, during Phase IV, one of the three data center buildings was renovated and enhanced for new tenants. The renovation also provided an average electrical and cooling capacity of 200 watts per SF of data floor space, with up to 500 watts per SF locally.
