Pine Bend Refinery Diesel Hydrocracker Unit
Rosemount, Minnesota
Kiewit completed upgrades at the Pine Bend Refinery enabling the production of ultralow-sulfur diesel fuels and converting diesel fuel to gasoline, which allowed the client to meet the growing market demands. The 345,000-barrel-per-day refinery uses crude oil to produce gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, asphalt and heating fuels.
The major mechanical work for the ultralow-sulfur diesel fuel unit included setting and installing 128 pieces of equipment, 72,000 linear feet of pipe and nearly 900 tons of structural steel. The scope also contained four reciprocating compressors, 23 exchangers, 33 air coolers or fin-fans, 42 vessels, 500 cubic yards of area paving and 18,000 square feet of equipment fireproofing.
