Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Sky Train Stage 1A

The Phoenix Sky Train project is an intra-airport transit system that will provide connections between numerous airport facilities and link into the Valley Metro Light Rail System. To accommodate available funding the project has been divided into phases.
Stage 1A included 1,741 LF on-grade guideway, 1,256 LF elevated guideway, major underground infrastructure relocation and improvements, a new 5,100 SF core network and airfield lighting building, a new 37,500 SF terminal station servicing both Terminals 2 and 3 with a pedestrian connector bridge over Sky Harbor Boulevard, nine cast-in-place retaining walls totaling 2,795 LF, two 80 LF taxiway bridge extensions, 15,000 SF of Terminal 3 tenant improvements, new Terminal 2 walkway, air rescue firefighting access bridge, and new storage building. The station, elevated guideway, and taxiway bridge extensions are supported by 107 caissons between six to nine feet in diameter.
The project had four GMPs and 10 phases. Phases included east approach ramp, Taxiway S, Taxiway T, west approach ramp, elevated guideway, station, elevator A/penthouse, bridge, Terminal 3 modifications, and Terminal 2 walkway. Each phase had a unique milestone driver and was interdependent on each other.
Delivered under budget, this project also received the 2014 ENR Best Project Award in the Airport/Transit Category.
