I-15 Virgin River Bridge No. 1
Littlefield, Arizona
The Arizona Department of Transportation contracted Kiewit Infrastructure West Co. to demolish and reconstruct Virgin River Bridge No. 1, which carries thousands of vehicles per day as part of the route connecting Utah, Arizona, Nevada and California.
The project comprised 0.9 miles of I-15 and required replacement of the five-span, steel girder with a three-span, steel girder superstructure, installation of new asphaltic concrete pavement with friction course, roadway marking and driver safety installations, work site restoration, the establishment of a new vegetation area, and restoring diverted water to its natural flow path. This project alleviated the bridge’s structural deficiencies so that I-15 can continue to accommodate traffic growth while minimizing maintenance requirements.
