Kiewit subsidiary Weeks Marine expanded the four-lane bridge-tunnel along 3.5 miles of I-64 in Norfolk and Hampton, Virginia, with two new twin tunnels across Norfolk Harbor. This addressed congestion and increased transit capacity. Weeks was subcontracted to extend the island at the north end of the tunnel. It used its specialized marine fleet, which included large gantry cranes and excavators with GPS systems, to place rocks across 350-foot areas without moving the barge, contributing to a timely completion.
