Gemini Solar + Storage Substation and Collector Line

Moapa, Nevada

As part of the 967 MWdc solar facility and 380 MW four-hour battery energy storage system (BESS) project, Kiewit engineered, procured and constructed a comprehensive energy solution. The project scope included the construction of multiple 34.5kV overhead collection circuits to connect the solar field to the 34.5/345kV substation as well as 26 underground circuits. The overhead collection system features 740 wood poles, over 188,000 linear circuit feet of conductor (exceeding 564,000 linear feet) and 26 riser structures and switches.

During preconstruction, Kiewit helped obtain 60 permits in Clark County from various jurisdictions and agencies. The team also interfaced with local federally recognized tribes including several subcontracts with the Moapa Band of Paiutes.

The new system provides 1,400 MWh of clean, reliable power for more than 400,000 homes after sundown.
