Positioned comfortably in a historic section of South Omaha, the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center is a $29 million facility which includes a fitness center, a gymnasium and aquatic, education and family services centers. The six-city-block facility employs more than 40 full-time, year-round employees and more than 40 part-time employees.
Some of the features of the state-of-the-art facility include a fitness center; a three-court gymnasium with more than 17,000 square feet of space; and an aquatic center with a zero-depth-entry recreation pool a lazy stream, water slide and a six-lane competition pool. The Kroc Center also includes an education center; classroom complex; party rooms; concessions; game room; a family services center; administrative offices; full-service kitchen; prayer chapel; and a 575-seat assembly hall. Outside the facility there is 390,000 square feet of green space containing a sports field complex, a playground, festival plaza and an outdoor stage.
The exterior skin of the building is comprised of 51,149 square feet of preformed metal siding; 37,550 square feet of architectural and structural precast concrete; 13,941 square feet of curtain wall and storefront glass assemblies; 12,800 square feet of concrete masonry units; and 112,815 square feet of ethylene-propylene-dyne-monomer roofing. It contains44,013 square feet of interior concrete masonry unit walls and 764 tons of structural steel.
