U.S. Air Force Global Weather Agency - Bellevue, Neb.
The Air Force Weather Agency headquarters is a $27 million, four-story, 188,000-square-foot data center and office building built for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers to accommodate the Air Force’s global weather functions. The building is LEED® Gold certified, and features low-wattage lamps, electronic ballasts and occupy sensors. The building was carefully placed to optimize sun angles, and uses sunshades, light shelves and high-efficiency glazing to enhance window performance.
A significant advantage of the site is that it allowed Kiewit to construct the facility "off-base." This was accomplished by temporarily moving the base security perimeter so that the construction site was technically outside the base. By making this simple change, it is estimated that the project saved over 180,000 miles of construction vehicle traffic by eliminating the need for construction traffic to enter the base through the contractor gate.
