Allen Combined-Cycle Plant
Memphis, Tennessee
Kiewit engineered, procured and constructed, this 1,100-megawatt natural gas-fired power plant replaces a 60-year-old coal-fired plant, which shut down operations in response to the US Environmental Protection Agency’s December 2018 deadline for the reduction of coal emissions. The current 2×1 combined-cycle facility generates enough power to supply more than a half-million homes while complying with new air pollution regulations.
The plant features two GE 7HA.02 gas turbines, two Vogt triple-pressure heat recovery steam generators and a Toshiba 472-megawatt steam turbine generator. This facility is the most efficient combined-cycle plant in TVA’s gas fleet with 3,000 solar panels that supply the site with 1 megawatt of renewable energy.
Won POWER Magazine’s Top Plant Award and ENR Southeast’s Energy/Industrial Best Project and Excellence in Safety Award.
