Colorado Asphalt Plant Projects
Our experience ranges from small, quick projects to complex, design-build projects.
El Paso County Fountain Mesa Intersection
Kiewit recently completed the reconstruction of the Fountain Mesa and Caballero intersection in Fountain, Colorado. The project consisted of installation of a new roundabout at the intersection, including drainage, flatwork and asphalt paving.
30th Street – Garden of the Gods
Kiewit performed asphalt paving for the reconstruction of 30th street in front of Garden of the Gods.
State Highway 96
Kiewit’s award-winning SH 96 Project in Pueblo, Colorado, required coordinating construction activities to get the job done while limiting the impact to the local community.
State Highway 86
In 2019, Kiewit resurfaced 13.7 miles of State Highway 86 which included 3.8 miles of leveling and four bridge structures that needed rehab work.
Jackson Creek Parkway
In 2019, Kiewit was contracted to repair and widen an important section of Jackson Creek Parkway in Monument, CO. Kiewit used innovative surface mix enhancements and developed a paving process to greatly increase the strength and life of this pavement project.
Pikes Peak
At an altitude of 14,000 feet, Kiewit graded and paved 19 miles of difficult terrain to complete the Pike’s Peak Highway. A specialty high altitude mix was designed and produced by Kiewit to form the best quality road possible at this extreme elevation. Kiewit faced a difficult construction period while mitigating traffic and hauling all materials to the site.
Colorado Springs Airport
I-25 North
This project increased the capacity of 11 miles of I-25 through Colorado Springs, decreased congestion on the highway and improved safety, drainage, and water quality in the area. In recognition of outstanding effort and high quality, this project was awarded the 2015 Colorado Asphalt Pavement Association (CAPA) “Best in Colorado” award for a rural highway resurfacing project.
Cripple Creek
Kiewit rehabilitated Bennett Avenue through the heart of the city of Cripple Creek. This project improved drainage, sidewalks, utilities, and overall pedestrian access. Kiewit was careful to minimize the impact on the surrounding businesses and casinos as pedestrian traffic is the lifeblood of the city.
Highway 86
Kiewit paved 13 miles of thin lift overlay on Highway 86, west of Limon making a 70-mile haul for the materials. This project was challenging due to late season paving and multiple interchanges.
