This active P3 project is comprised of a new two-lane immersed tube tunnel under the Elizabeth River adjacent to the existing Midtown Tunnel and interchanges on both the Norfolk and Portsmouth sides; maintenance and safety improvements to the existing Midtown Tunnel; maintenance and safety improvements to the two existing Downtown Tunnels; and an extension of the MLK Expressway from London Boulevard to Interstate 264 (I-264).
The vivaNext - H3 Project is part of York Region Rapid Transit Corporation's plan for the next generation of rapid transit. The project includes the construction of rapidways — dedicated centre bus lanes — and 22 state-of-the-art station platforms. The 6.4-kilometre project will transform the Highway 7 corridor into a visually appealing and pedestrian-friendly environment.
Kiewit completed a $33.5 million contract to repair El Portal Road in Yosemite National Park after several days of heavy, warm rains combined with record flows in the Merced River caused extensive flooding and washed out the road in 19 locations.
This C$53 million design-build project includes construction of a 16 km. four-lane divided highway and 11 bridges. Extremely challenging soil conditions required crews to undergo extensive pre-loading and monitoring in order to have the new highway open for two-lane traffic in September 2006.
In 1997, a Kiewit-led joint venture began work on UDOT's Interstate 15 reconstruction, a $1.3-billion design-build project. Demolishing, designing and rebuilding a 16-mile stretch of freeway with 142 bridges, the team completed the job months ahead of schedule and in time for the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Completed nearly one year ahead of schedule, the $28 million I-20 Lane Replacement project involved replacing 13 miles of east and westbound Interstate 20. Additional work included roadway demolition and shoulder widening while maintaining traffic through this heavily traveled corridor.
The Interstate 26 Mars Hill project was designated North Carolina's first interstate scenic byway. This 6-mile project involved extending I-26 through the Appalachian Mountains and performing 24 million cubic yards of excavation. At the time of its completion in April 2002, this 64-month project was the largest ever undertaken by the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
With Albuquerque's population growing, the I-40/Coors Interchange could no longer accommodate the daily traffic volume. The design-build project to rebuild the heavily traveled roadway included the interchange reconstruction, eight new bridges, pedestrian and bicycle paths, retaining walls, utility relocations, drainage improvements, signage and lighting.
Using an A+B contract, the Oregon Department of Transportation selected Kiewit to reconstruct the intersection of Interstate 5 and Highway 217. This $38 million project relieved traffic congestion as exiting northbound I-5 traffic attempted to merge with the heavily traveled Highway 217, which provided the only freeway access into western Portland. The reconstruction work involved merging northbound I-5 with westbound Highway 217 via a fly-over ramp.
Completed over 10 months ahead of schedule, the $22 million, 14-mile Interstate 95 Miami Rehabilitation involved removing and replacing 30-year-old concrete pavement and widening seven bridges. The 10-lane interstate handles over 200,000 vehicles a day.
