Coquitlam Marine Yard
Coquitlam, British Columbia
Kiewit owns and operates an industrial waterfront property in the Fraser Mills area along the Fraser River at 1950 Brigantine Drive, Coquitlam, BC.
The 10 acres of land, 1.3 kilometers of frontage and a 30-acre water lot actively services Kiewit’s Canadian marine fleet and other construction equipment. Yard operations primarily involve staging equipment and materials on land, transferring materials to and from barges and fabricating materials for various projects. The facility also conducts a disposal-at-sea operation.
To support the construction of key regional infrastructure projects, Kiewit is expanding its existing Marine Yard along the Fraser River to develop a world-class modern marine facility.
The fixed facility includes designing and engineering a marine access trestle, a marine conveyor structure, on-shore structures, a roll-on/roll-off ramp and hydraulic structures with mooring piles.
The expansion will extend the yard’s foreshore and add new marine access structures, including a trestle, conveyor support structure and roll-on/roll-off ramp, along with a new maintenance and storage shop.
Additional improvements will incorporate environmental offsets, such as a 4,900-square-meter intertidal marsh bench.
The Marine Yard is also the home of our extensive marine fleet. This strategic location allows us to efficiently manage and deploy our vessels, ensuring seamless operations and top-notch service delivery.
Additionally, the Marine Yard includes a material disposal at sea operation (DAS), having disposed of over 1,000,000 metric tons of material supporting the vertical building market since its inception.
Kiewit’s DAS services are the largest soil disposal at sea service in BC, offering unlimited DAS availability, scale reading for all trucks and ECCC permitting assistance. These services are available 24/7, allowing for the simultaneous dumping of multiple trucks with a quick 3-minute turnaround in the yard. Kiewit can load 50,000 tons per week, handling 400 truck-loads per shift.
