Broadway Bridge SR-1 (US Routes 70/70S/431)

Kiewit replaced Nashville’s iconic downtown Broadway bridge in record time, within an 8-week bridge closure, by using pre-built bridge sections, 3D plans and meticulous staging. Early on, Kiewit recognized the project would require extensive third-party coordination with major stakeholders, while accommodating pedestrian, cyclist and vehicular traffic. Popular hotels near the bridge on the north and south increased complexity with major existing utilities and access limitations on transporting construction materials and equipment to the area.

To minimize impacts to this critical route in and out of Downtown Nashville, Kiewit crews demolished the existing bridge and constructed the new superstructure while leveraging the pre-built substructure. Kiewit met each challenge through close collaboration with the DOT and stakeholders to successfully deliver the complex project on-budget and ahead of schedule.
