Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium - Conservation Academy
Omaha, Nebraska
The new Adventure Education hub has eight special classrooms linked to hands-on laboratories, small-mammal exhibits and adventure play areas. The academy works within the Omaha Public School system to provide specialized STEM education opportunities to high-school students. The facility also houses a preschool.
The three-story building was designed using suggestions from Zoo Academy students. Other features include a multipurpose space with bleachers, a dedicated pickup and drop off zone, and offices for the Zoo’s administrative, educational and foundation staffs.
A new, dedicated 6.15-acre Children’s Zone with exhibits, play areas and splash zones means more fun and learning, while a shaded plaza and garden provides seating for parents. Families also can enjoy sitting under the outdoor trellis in the snack and beverage area while they watch the kids play.
The Adventure Education hub has the capacity for 350 students.
