Cavalier Substation

To support the solar facility’s energy collection and transmission, Kiewit engineered, procured, constructed, tested and commissioned a 500/34.5kV collector substation. The project scope included installing six 34.5kV breakers, a 500kV high-side transformer and breaker and a 500kV transmission line to Dominion’s Septa Substation. Additionally, the team installed 16 circuit-miles of 34.5kV overhead collector line using a combination of direct-embedded wood monopoles and steel poles on foundations. This comprehensive solution provides efficient energy collection and reliable transmission to the grid.
