Scattergood Unit 3 Repowering - Playa Del Rey, Calif.
The Scattergood Generating Station Unit 3 will be replaced with a modern, state-of-the-art combined-cycle unit and simple-cycle gas turbine units for a total generation of 500 MW.
Kiewit was awarded the contract to engineer, procure and construct a nominal 300 MW 1x1 combined cycle plant and a nominal 200 MW 2x0 simple cycle plant to replace the existing steam boiler Unit 3, which will be decommissioned after the new units are in service. Equipment includes a GE 7FA.05 CTG, GE A14 STG, Vogt triple pressure HRSG, air-cooled condenser and two GE LMS 100 CTGs. The combined cycle plant will utilize the GE Rapid Response power train capability.
Kiewit’s previous experience and expertise will allow construction to be executed without interruption of the existing facilities, as well as manage the extended scope of supply provided by the OEM contractor and meet the owner’s schedule for staggered completion dates.
Upon completion, the Scattergood Unit 3 Repowering Project will improve efficiency, reliability and flexibility as compared to the existing unit being replaced. It will also maximize the use of renewable power within the LADWP generation system, reduce start times and eliminate the use of ocean water cooling.
