Long Lake Oil Sands - Fort McMurrary
Ganotec West, an affiliate of Kiewit, installed the air separation unit (ASU) at the Long Lake Oil Sands Upgrader. Disciplines included civil, structural, piping (fabricate and install), mechanical (including equipment, module setting and vessel internals), electrical & instrumentation, and insulation.
At the time of installation, the ASU—designed to supply 3,900 metric tons per day of oxygen—was the world’s largest single-unit air separation plant. The ASU is part of the process for upgrading bitumen into synthetic crude oil.
Ganotec West also assembled the compressor module at the Acheson fabrication facility in late 2006 and installation of the liquid nitrogen takeoff system at Long Lake in 2009.
