When completed in 2011, this massive tunnel construction program will virtually eliminate combined sewer overflows into the Willamette River. A Kiewit-led joint venture completed preconstruction services under Phase I of the project. Currently, Kiewit is performing work on Phase 2, the largest component of Portland's CSO program, a $381 million network of shallow pipelines.
On an environmentally sensitive site, Kiewit Pacific Co. is constructing the Ellis Creek Water Recycling Facility, which when complete, will process sewage flows using the latest treatment technologies. The project scope includes building approximately 60 structures and placing 25,000 cubic yards of concrete, 90,000 feet of underground piping and 18,000 feet of aboveground piping.
To provide flood protection to the Sacramento area, the United States Bureau of Reclamation is awarding five contracts to build Folsom Dam’s new $1.3 billion spillway. Kiewit Pacific Co. was awarded the $16 million contract to complete the first phase excavation for the spillway. Once complete, the auxiliary spillway will include a 1,000-foot-long approach channel; a concrete control structure.
Kiewit Pacific Co. used both recycled and borrowed materials to rebuild the failing Keechelus Dam. The project, while helping to keep the region's water supply intact, also incorporated a number of environmental enhancements including creation of natural and manmade wetlands.
Canada's largest design-build hydro power plant and the first design-build hydroplant by an independent power producer in British Columbia, this C$209 million award-winning project was completed 22 months early, speeding the flow of electric power to consumers in Canada and the United States from water stored by the Hugh Keenleyside Dam.
This $392 million engineer-procure-construct contract consists of six separate run-of the-river hydroelectric projects. Each project is comprised of an intake structure, a penstock, a powerhouse and a tailrace channel.
