Parking Structure H - Aurora, Colo.
Parking Structure H is a $23 million, 435,000-square-foot structure located on a 4.8-acre site. The parking structure is the first to serve the University of Colorado at Denver Health Sciences Center's new Anschutz Medical Campus. Kiewit constructed six above-grade levels and one below-grade level, providing 1,540 parking stalls. Additional work included the lighting, signage, landscaping and irrigation, electrical feeder and transformer, and telecommunications and security systems.
Parking Structure H faced many challenges. Unexpected asbestos abatement and the second snowiest winter in Colorado's history initially delayed the project, followed by the owner's request to accelerate the project by six weeks. In addition, the team had to redesign the structure to accommodate a 100-year-old oak tree on the site in the early stages of construction. Despite the unexpected delays, Kiewit met the challenges, achieving beneficial occupancy by opening two levels of the parking structure and completed the project on the requested date.
