Western Beltway and Signature Wall
The Florida Department of Transportation awarded this $75 million project to alleviate up to 40 percent of traffic on I-4 through the Disney corridor. Kiewit Southern Co. constructed the toll State Road – 429 Western Beltway as well as the associated ramps and state-of-the-art signature walls near the gantry.
Pump Station S7 and S8
The $9.5 million rehabilitation project included the complete removal and rehabilitation of seven horizontal, axial flow pumps. For the Pump Stations S7 and S8 project, Kiewit also had to re-machine the propellers and replace bearings, reconfigure the pumps basins, and a telemetry package.
Progress Energy Duct Bank
The $42 million Progress Energy project included procuring and installing four miles of a 16-duct utility in the corridor from the Bartow power plant to its northeast substation.
Pembroke Pump Station
Kiewit Southern Co. was awarded the $11 million project to design and construct the Pembroke Pump Station. The team constructed an at-grade precast panel pump station, four 40-cubic-feet-per-second pumps with 30-inch-diameter expansion joints, back-flow gates and butterfly valves that are connected to a 64-inch-diameter steel header pipe.
Everglades Pump Station G-337
Part of restoring the Everglades to an ecologically balanced condition by reducing levels of phosphorous in the water created from farmland storm water run-off, the $2.3 million project included installing a new intake and pump station in Palm Beach County, Fla. Due to the remote location in the Everglades, Gilbert Southern Corp. maintained an on-site office throughout construction.
Everglades Pump Stations G-404 and G-409
Kiewit Southern Co. was awarded this $6.5 million contract for Pump Stations G-404 and G-409 as part of the South Florida Water Management District’s goal of restoring the Everglades to its previously ecologically balanced condition.
