Markets Experience

Hoevensa GT-13
The Kiewit team provided detailed design, procurement and performance testing (to be concluded upon owner completion of startup and commissioning) for the 25-megawatt steam cogeneration power plant. When fully operational, the project will provide the additional steam and power capacity required to operate the new low sulfur gas production unit in the Hovensa oil refinery.
Sandy Creek Energy Station
Rising taller than India’s Taj Mahal, the concrete chimney at Sandy Creek Energy Station stands at an impressive 360 feet. The Kiewit team poured more than 2,000 cubic yards of concrete to slipform the tallest structure in McLennan County, Texas in less than 30 days.
Northland-Thorold Cogeneration Project
Located 20 minutes from Niagara Falls and just west of Lake Ontario, the Thorold Cogeneration project is a 265-megawatt combined cycle cogeneration facility that will provide power to more than 100,000 Ontario homes, businesses and the adjacent AbitibiBowater Paper Mill.
Panoche Energy Project
While many California energy facilities currently under construction are experiencing marked delays, the Panoche Energy Center is moving forward ahead of schedule with plans to bring the facility online in time for the summer 2009 peak energy season. In addition, the Kiewit team is working closely with the California Energy Commission to ensure strict conformance with all California air quality and environment laws.
Nebraska City Unit 2 Coal-Fired Power Plant
A Kiewit-led joint venture was awarded the contract to engineer, procure, construct, startup and test a 660-megawatt coal-fired power plant. The new plant at Nebraska City more than doubles the current power output at the original facility that was built in the 1970s.
Springerville Unit 4 AQCS
The Kiewit team was awarded the contract to construct and install the spray dryer absorber to the 400-megawatt coal-fired power plant. As part of the plant expansion, the client also upgraded emission controls on Units 1 and 2. The result will be the combined emissions from all four units will be less than the original two units.
