DFW Connector Project Team Selected

March 26, 2009

Fort Worth, TX – NorthGate Constructors (NorthGate) announces today that it has been selected by the Texas Transportation Commission and Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to develop, design, construct and possibly perform capital maintenance of the DFW Connector project.

For more than two years, NorthGate has been working with TxDOT and key stakeholders of the Dallas-Fort Worth region to provide mobility solutions that meet the project’s goals of delivering safe, reliable, and timely transportation improvements for the local motorists.

Mobility enhancements within the project limits include highway, bridge, drainage and intelligent traffic systems upgrades within the limits of SH-114 just west of Southlake Blvd, proceeding east to the Dallas County line. The improvements proposed address traffic congestion at the confluence of state highways 121 and 114, often referred to as “the funnel,” through the city of Grapevine.

Additional improvements include added capacity from FM-2499 near the Grapevine Mills Mall to south of Mustang Drive. Capacity expansion includes the addition of three general purpose lanes and two managed lanes in each direction on SH-114. Along SH-121, three general purpose lanes and a series of collector-distributor lane upgrades will be integrated into the highway system to streamline the access to the DFW Airport.

A local work force of approximately 1000 management, engineering, and skilled craft personnel will be deployed over the coming months in partnership with the North Central Texas subcontracting and supplier network to provide timely and cost-effective delivery of the DFW Connector Project.

NorthGate is a joint-venture of two of Texas' most respected organizations in the highway construction industry: Fort Worth-based Kiewit Texas Construction and San Antonio-based Zachry Construction.
